Lake Basters Bring Home Trophies Again
This past Saturday the Silver
Lake Basters Competition BBQ Team went to
to compete in the State of
Ohio Barbeque Championship, a Kansas City Barbeque Society
sanctioned contest. The Basters beat
out teams from
and many other states. The Basters placed first in the brisket
category, third in chicken, fourth in ribs, and second overall,
giving the basters the title of Ohio Reserve Champions. The
team is sponsored by Cavens Meat Inc. and Silver Lake Company Picnic
Grounds of New Carlisle.

It was a
beautiful Fall Weekend and the smell of Barbecue filled the air as the
State of Ohio Barbeque Championship was underway at Hocking College
at Nelsonville, near Athens Ohio. Among the contestants Dan Heberling and his Team
"The Silver Lake Bashers" from New Carlisle, Ohio.
Mr. Heberling is the owner and manager of Silver Lake Company Picnic Grounds. Thirteen Champion barbecue
teams from the Mid-West gathered to test their skills at this sanctioned competition of the
Kansas City Barbecue Society. The Silver lake team placed
first in Brisket,
2nd Place in Chicken and 4th place in Secret BBQ Sauce. In
the final standings of all categories combined, the Silver Lake team
placed 3rd over all.
June 1, 1999: Dan and the Silver Lake Basters placed
2nd in Beef
Brisket at the Blue Ridge Barbeque Festival in Tryon, North Carolina.
June 11, 1999: Dan and his
cooking crew won the Tour de Pork Channel 7 News WSPA TV Award
in the Blue
Ridge Barbeque Festival.
Dan is a member in good
standing of the National Barbeque Association and
